A walking contradiction - that's what a Liberal Christian is. I know, I know, I am saying the UNTHINKABLE. Who am I to make such a statement? Well, I'm a born-again Christian who knows her Bible and politics enough to know that you CANNOT have liberal points of view and still live your life as a follower of Christ. With that said, this is the first of three installments breaking down the WHY. Let's start out with a bang, shall we?
REASON #1 - ABORTION
You cannot SUPPORT a party or a person who is actively trying to keep abortion legal and available for anyone, for any reason, and at any term of pregnancy. That's called murder. Abortion is murder. Period. Remember the Ten Commandments? THOU SHALT NOT MURDER (Exodus 20:2-17, Deuteronomy 5:6-21 KJV). A human is a human at conception, with a detectable heartbeat as early as 3 weeks after (Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5).
Let's define murder for a second - according to Merriam-Webster, murder is the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice (aforethought). What does "aforethought" mean? Well, I'll tell you: it means "previously in mind" or "premeditated." Yeah, last time I checked, abortion is 100% premeditated. There is a lot of thought put into it beforehand for most women who choose that option. A woman who is getting an abortion is a woman knowing that she is ending a humans life, and not just a human, but a baby. Her baby. A helpless, defenseless child who should be able to look to his or her mother for protection and unconditional love, but is met with a selfish woman.
Here are two beautiful passages of scripture where we see God's intricate design in all of us and how loved, cherished, and protected we are in the womb and beyond:
Psalm 139:13-16 (NKJV) -
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me,
when as yet there were none of them.
Honestly, as I read that, it brought so much joy to soul. David wrote the Psalms. This passage is him recalling how deliberate and loving God was when creating him in his mothers womb. What really tugs at me is when he says, "Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed." Just - wow. That is exactly how we should view every unborn baby. We must see their substance, just as God has seen ours. We are "fearfully and wonderfully made," but more importantly, we are made in His image (Genesis 1:27 NKJV)!
Jeremiah 1:4-7 (NKJV) -
4 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
6 Then said I:“Ah, Lord God!
Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”
7 But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Here is a great example of how God can use anyone, even a child, to proclaim the Word of God. Jeremiah didn't see how he could be of any use to God because of his youth, but God wouldn't have any of it. God said, "before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." This, right here, is why we stand for the unborn. We have no idea what God has planned for them. It's not up to us to decide whether they deserve to find out.
In the case of rape, I first want to start off by saying that my heart breaks for any person who has been raped. It's not okay and will never be okay. However, if a woman is impregnated due to that horrifying incident, it is NOT, I repeat - IT IS NOT the baby's fault. Put him or her up for adoption. There are plenty of resources and options for women who persevered through such a tragic experience and came out on the other side that don't involve getting an abortion. There are also plenty of women who have chosen the adoption route. They knew they were able to give their child a better life by allowing a loving family to adopt them, which would also give the mother a chance to truly heal afterwards without having the responsibility of raising a child. So, don't even try me with that argument. Again, a helpless, innocent human baby is growing in your body. Do not kill him or her. That is wrong. Click here for a beautiful testimony from a man who was conceived from rape and how he's changing the "rape baby" narrative.
In the case of women who have had abortions and regretted it afterwards - unfortunately, the deed is done. What's amazing about God, though, is that if you come to Him, humble and broken, He will forgive you. Humility is key. Changing the course after that decision is where faith takes place. Approaching life forgiven and with a clean slate is the act of total faith in God. A woman who does this have a different story - a story of true redemption. They are the women to go to and listen to when considering such an act. They know the true pain and sorrow of choosing to end their own child's life due to fear of the unknown. Thankfully, due to God's grace, those women WILL see their precious babies in heaven one day. That is something to rejoice about and rest in! I am talking about this topic because it is a topic that is, sadly, not discussed enough in your average American church today. This is an issue that is the great divide in politics, aside from belief in God vs. belief in science. What needs to be understood is this: we do not belong to ourselves. Our bodies belong to the One true, living God (1 Corinthians 6:19). There is no "God understands what I've been through, therefore, He will forgive me." Yes, God has forgiven you and will always forgive you. God sent His Son, Jesus to die for our sins so that we may be saved. If you believe that and accept Jesus into your heart with sincere humility, the Holy Spirit enters you. When the Holy Spirit lives in you, conviction from sin will be a feeling you will become familiar with. That conviction and awareness of your sin will, hopefully, result in you repenting.
A person who is truly saved, convictions and all, will not go into an abortion thinking God will be okay with it because He "understands" their situation. Actual repentance results in you actively, intentionally trying NOT to sin. Do you really think voting for any politician that supports and condones abortion isn't a sin? It's a sin of omission. If you do not have conviction over that then a major heart check is needed. Just because you haven't gotten an abortion doesn't mean you're in the clear if you are voting for someone to allow it to remain legal and frequent. And let's not forget who started Planned Parenthood and made abortions mainstream: Margaret Sanger - a woman so evil that I would consider her to be the female Hitler - who aimed to single-handedly carry out population control by use of birth control. She also wanted to eradicate all infants with disabilities in order to create a "new race". Sound familiar? *cough* Hitler. She stated that it is the greatest sin to bring an "unfit" child into this world who has no chance of making it. Isn't it interesting, then, that she went out of her way to make sure African-Americans and Hispanics were her target audience? She even cozied up to the KKK!
Here's a cuddly quote from Ms. Sanger:
The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.
- Margaret Sanger
If you are a Christian and you are voting for a liberal Democratic candidate, you are voting for abortion. The Democratic party is very open about healthcare rights for women. The main facet of that is legal, "safe" abortions; many of which happen through Planned Parenthood. Over 60 million babies have been aborted since Planned Parenthood was established. Oh, and your taxes are funding this heinous organization. Your vote goes farther than just the candidate. For more information and research on the crime of abortion, click here.
Wow, that was a lot! If you read to the end, thank you! Even if you're upset with me, I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to to read this. This is an important topic that needs to be addressed on a truth-based stance, not an emotionally-based or personal one. I come from a place of love, information, and sincere caution. No matter what, though, God wants you to come to Him, especially when making decisions like this.
Sincerely + with love,
